Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvides overall leadership to the BMU unit. Plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates services for St. Anthony Regional Hospital (SARH) to meet service delivery needs.Evaluates and develops clinical practices for Mental Health Services that support the mission, vision, and values of SARH.Markets mental health programs, promotes community awareness and ensures viability and growth of BMU services.Directs and supervises assigned staff, which includes Nursing, Social Work, Art Therapy, Occupational and Recreational Therapy, ensuring quality patient care is provided.Serves as an effective leader and resource to staff.Participates in the development and implementation of organizational and departmental goals and actions plans and ensures they are congruent with SARH’s strategic plan. Develops goal measurements to monitor performance and makes adjustments as needed.Participates in the development and implementation of standards, policies and procedures.Collaborates with other nursing leaders in the planning and development of policies and procedures, and decision making for the Patient Services division.Conducts the interviewing and hiring process according to SARH policies and procedures.Completes timely annual performance appraisals for assigned employees.Develops, reviews, implements and monitors standards of care, policies and procedures as necessary in accordance with state and federal regulations.Develops, implements, and continuously monitors unit-based Performance Improvement Program.Ensures proper scheduling and staff coverage to meet quality and patient needs within assigned unit.Provides training and professional development opportunities for nursing staff to ensure clinical competence and promote job satisfaction.Maintains clinical competency in specialty areas and provides direct patient care as needed. Able to provide bed side patient care when required.Develops annual operating, capital and FTE budgets for management of expense to revenue ratios within established guidelines.Ensures that effective procedures are established and followed that promote productive liaison relationships with referral sources and managed healthcare systems in the referral, admission, treatment, utilization and discharge processes within the Mental Health Services modalities.Responds to life saving situations based on nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocols.Participates in applicable committees and events, especially those related to mental health.Assures quality of service and safety of patients, employees, and visitors through the implementation of policies and procedures that guide the activities of the staff.Monitors activities within the department to evaluate performance improvement opportunities. Corrects deficiencies to meet the expectations of quality service.Oversees the coordinator of regular departmental safety huddles and meetings, along with regular communication and feedback to employees within assigned areas.Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises employees in the BMU unit and other areas as assigned. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
