Job Description

Job Summary

The Employee Health Nurse will provide professional support to employee health programs and provide educational services support and Organization loss-control programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements the Employee Health Program. Monitors compliance and notifies department leaders in a timely manner.
  • Assess and provides on-going monitoring of employee related workplace associated risks and makes improvement recommendations.
  • Performs pre-employment health screening.
  • Conducts health clinics, including immunization clinics.
  • Records all immunizations administered in Iowa Immunization Registry Information System (IRIS).
  • Carries out studies and investigations on health or safety-related questions and prepares reports, summaries, and recommendations.
  • Monitors employee related health requirements and notifies department leaders of issues and concerns.
  • Contributes information and recommendations for the Infection Control Committee related to employee health.
  • Assists employees who are injured or become ill at work.
  • Establishes and maintains medical department records.
  • Serves as a resource for all departments and personnel related to employee health.
  • Reviews and revises employee health policies and procedures. Ensures that policies are in compliance with CDC, DIA, CMS, OSHA and other applicable standards of practice.
  • Assists Infection Control Practitioner with employee outbreak investigations and initiates control measures. Reports data to applicable agencies, and oversees corrective actions.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources regarding workman’s compensation cases.
  • Provides employee health related educational offerings for orientation and on-going in-services.
  • Consults with department leaders and physicians as needed to improve employee health.
  • Initiates follow-up on employee/patient exposures to communicable diseases.
  • Serves as organization administrator for IRIS.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of OSHA Standards.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of adult learning, organizational skills and project management.
  • Assists as directed with educational offerings, both for nursing and employee health.
  • Assists with the onboarding process for employees and students.
  • Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.
  • Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.
  • Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.
  • Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities, however, may assist physician with special unit procedures and provide training, education, and guidance to assigned L.P.N.s, C.M.A.s and/or C.N.A.s.

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the department Director, organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • RN with state license required, BSN preferred; Current license to practice nursing in the state.
  • Two years of experience as a professional nurse in employee health preferred.
  • Completion of on-going continuing education related to employee health.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Ability to develop and evaluate policies and procedures.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, patients, families and the general public.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; talk and hear; and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be exposed to infectious diseases and occupational dangers like accidental needle pricks.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and blood borne pathogens. The employee may occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
