Job Title: Phlebotomy Specialist

 

The Phlebotomy Specialist at St. Anthony Regional Hospital plays a vital role in the laboratory process, collecting blood specimens and non-blood samples from patients. This role requires a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and laboratory procedures, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Obtains blood and non-blood specimens from patients using various collection methods
  2. Labels and prepares specimens for transport to the laboratory
  3. Accurately enters patient information and test orders into the laboratory information system
  4. Ensures accurate and efficient processing of specimens, including sample preparation and centrifugation
  5. Communicates with patients, nurses, and other healthcare providers to obtain necessary information and resolve issues

 

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; medical assistant or phlebotomy certification preferred
  • 80 hours training in proper venipuncture procedure required
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds occasionally
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
