Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Anticipates the surgeon’s needs, passing instruments, and providing sterile items in an efficient manner.
- Assists in transporting patients.
- Assist team in opening operating room each day, gathering supplies/equipment needed per physician preference card, and opening of sterile supplies and equipment prior to patient entering Operating Room.
- Using sterile technique, prepares sterile fields with appropriate instruments, supplies, and labeled medication for local injection.
- Assists in prepping and draping of patients and operative area.
- Prepares and participates in preoperative counts of instruments, sponges and sharps, maintaining correct count.
- Assists team in positioning patients and equipment.
- Following procedure, places all instruments into case cart using caution as to keep the used/contaminated instruments separate from the unused instruments.
- Assist team in cleaning operating room.
- Restocks and replaces linens and supplies in operating rooms and storage areas.
- Participates in cleaning, packaging and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
- Practices and behaves in a professional, safe and ethical manner at all times.
- Serves as a patient advocate.
- Maintains friendly and courteous interpersonal communication skills and a positive service attitude.
- Participates in performance improvement and educational activities.
- Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.
- Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.
- Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.
- Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

- Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician program and/or applicable experience.
- Associate's degree preferred.
Position Requirements, Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
- BCLS certification within six months of employment.
- Must have a high energy level with ability to work under the stress of the operating room atmosphere and exhibit emotional maturity, stability, and flexibility.
- Exhibits excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers, patients, families and employees of the organization.
