What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Charge Nurse position at St. Barnabas Health System?
FT Opportunity for an experienced Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse (RN). Mostly Monday through Friday daylight position with other hours/shifts as needed.
Receive up to a $3000 sign-on incentive for this role.

Oversee the clinical staff and their daily scheduling and operations in conjunction with the Director of Nursing and Administrator. Chosen candidate must have skilled care/nursing home experience and be an RN.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains nursing objectives and standards for the institution.
- Plans, organizes and directs effective administration of each nursing unit based on the above-mentioned objectives, standards, policies and procedures and assures patients of a comfortable, clean, orderly and safe environment.
- Assume responsibility for compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Direct and supervise all resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary.
- Relieve Night Supervisor and complete morning rounds with each unit.
- Make daily resident and environmental rounds and initiate any corrective action as necessary.
- Follow established standards of nursing practices and make recommendations for policy changes/additions to supervisor and administrator as needed.
- Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action immediately.
- Assure that resident rights are being upheld.
- Assists in providing for spiritual, psychological and social needs of the residents.
- Participate in facility education programs.
- Staffing education as needed. Work in conjunction with Staff Development RN
- Attend staff meetings, classes and committee meetings as assigned.
- Work with DON on counseling staff, teaching staff and completing performance evaluations and disciplinary action as needed.
- Work with Human Resources on staff related concerns
- Complete Risk Management reports, investigations and reports to the Department of Health
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI)
- Participate in care plan development and complete documentation as needed.
- Report changes in residents' conditions to physician and take follow-up action as necessary.
- Perform basic nursing skills knowledgeably and competently.
- Direct and supervise infection control and safety policies and procedures are being followed.
- Assist DON with scheduling and managing nursing hours and staffing ratio’s.
- Assist in the identification and resolution of departmental and personnel concerns.
- Work in conjunction with all shifts and nursing staff to continually upgrade and improve nursing care of the residents
- Promotes effective working relationships with administration, medical staff, other departments, volunteers and agencies affiliated with the facility.
- Knowledge of Point Click Care (PCC) a plus
- Conduct all other duties as assigned by DON and/or administrator.
