What are the responsibilities and job description for the Stingers Squad K-8 and Summer Camp Program Assistant position at St Benedict's Episcopal Day School?
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:
This job description covers duties both in the school year and the summer camp programs. Program Assistants working in Kindergarten through 8th grade will be responsible for providing a safe, caring and enriching environment for the children enrolled in the St. Benedict’s Stingers Squad Aftercare and Summer Camp programs. For those working in the school year, this role takes place after the day school ends but should be a continuation of the day program in terms of level of care, school policies, and communication with the day school team. For those working in the summer camp program, the same level of care carried out during the school year should also be carried through during the summer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create a positive and enriching after school experience.
- Work with Program Lead to maintain consistent headcounts on all children present in Stingers Squad and constant awareness of each child’s location (restroom, playground, enrichment clubs/camps, etc.).
- Work with Program Lead to monitor and supervise children under the care of Stingers Squad Program, maintaining “line of sight” with any children located both inside and outside of designated Stingers Squad areas.
- Assist Program Lead to ensure the class is within ratio.
- Assist Stingers Squad or Summer Camp Program Leads in conducting all student activities (arts and crafts projects, indoor/outdoor games, teacher directed games, etc.).
- Assist Program Lead with daily sign-in/out processes in PikMyKid.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the Stingers Squad and summer camp classroom and storage areas.
- Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school rules and procedures regarding student behavior and participation and/or providing a safe, respectful and positive learning environment.
- Adhere to the policies as stated in the St. Benedict’s Employee Handbook, Auxiliary Programs policies and procedures, and policies outlined in subsequent St. Benedict’s training and meetings.
- In the absence of the Stingers Squad Program Lead, the Stingers Squad Program Assistant are responsible for maintaining all classroom duties.
- Attend staff meetings and assigned online training as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school matters.
- Model appropriate behavior in speech and actions
- Model professional and ethical standards and practices consistent with school policies when dealing with students, parents, peers in both speech and actions.
- Be evaluated throughout the year through informal and formal observation.
- Participate in training and professional development, goal setting with supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School degree or GED equivalent preferred
- Prior childcare experience preferred but not required
- First Aid and CPR certification, preferred. Training will be required through St. Benedict’s if not certification exists.
- Ability to effectively communicate with children.
- Excellent listening, strong problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal/written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to implement age appropriate, enriching activities.
- Ability to work with school technology and apps such as Google Suites, PikMyKid, and email.
- The ability to help create a harmonious environment by working well on a small team and with other staff.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Communicate effectively and respectfully both orally and in writing.
- Reliable and dependable.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing and planning needs.

- Ability to stand for long periods of time while instructing; excellent hearing abilities; physical ability to transport students from one area of a building/campus to another; physical ability to move into different learning spaces.

One in Kindergarten from 2:30 -6:00, M-F
One in 3rd grade from 3:30-6:00 M-Th and 2:30-6:00 on Fridays.
