Seeking Substitute teachers for the 2024-25 School Year, August - May. Depending on age level, would report to either the Director of Preschool (1's -4's), Assistant Head of School (K-4th grade), or Academic Chair (5th - 8th grade)
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:
St. Benedict's Episcopal School, located in Smyrna, GA is looking for substitute teachers to work during the school year months of August - May. With a student body of 615 , ranging from preschool 1 year-olds to 8th graders, we are looking for those in the field of education or prior experience with children to be available, as needed to fill various roles within our school. You may specify if you are more comfortable with a particular age student, and we will call you only when those positions need to be filled. Substitutes may be used for a full day or half day, and in some instances could be for several days in a row or to fill a long term leave. We place new subs in rooms with other teachers until one becomes familiar with the school and our environment. Substitute positions are filled via a text or phone call to the candidate sometimes days in advance, a day in advance, and even the morning of the day needed. We are very flexible around working with schedules and notating days that subs may only be available to work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches scheduled classes.
- Prepares a written summary of work completed.
- Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher.
- Follows the teacher’s written lesson plans. Consults with administration and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns.
- Complies with all building procedures and schedules. Promotes the proper use and care of school property.
- Makes the absent teacher aware of special situations or problems encountered.
- Upholds school policies and follows administrative procedures.
- Implements effective student management procedures. Intervenes and/or reports concerns to an administrator.
- Develops and maintains a positive learning environment.
- Works cooperatively with staff and administrators.
- Incorporates the effective use of available technology.
- Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.
- Respects personal privacy.
- Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Takes precautions to ensure staff/student safety. Does not leave students unsupervised.
- Supervises non-classroom duties when assigned.
- Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum high school degree
- Candidate must be at least 18 years of age
- Prior school or childcare experience preferred
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Follow both oral and written directions and instructions.
- Communicate in both oral and written means.
- Effectively present information and respond to students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Must maintain confidentiality of student and school matters.
- Effectively manage time and responsibilities.
- Be professional in appearance, attitude and demeanor
- Reliable and dependable.
- Working knowledge of Google Classroom and Google documents
- Ability to stand for long periods of time while instructing; excellent hearing abilities; physical ability to transport students from one area of a building/campus to another; physical ability to move into different learning spaces
