Do you want to make a difference in the life of young children? Join our Greater Louisville HeadStart team at St Benedict Center! We are searching for an enthusiastic and dedicated Childcare Floater.

St. Benedict Center for Early Childhood Education is a not-for-profit licensed childcare center that has been serving Louisville for over 50 years. St. Benedict Center creates a high-quality learning environment for children ranging from 6-weeks of age to 12 -years-old.

St. Benedict supports the intellectual, emotional, physical development of each child, utilizing federal Head Start curriculum. The environment of our Center is one of care and respect for each child as an individual. We encourage the child to be independent and to be responsible for his/her own actions.

St. Benedict Center is a wholly-owned subsidiary of New Directions Housing Corporation, a not-for-profit organization which has also been serving Louisville and Southern Indiana for over 50 years.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Uses knowledge of the principles of child growth and development to work with children and communicate with families, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implements child-centered daily routine, curriculum and learning environment that encourages the development of age-appropriate positive social interactions.
  • Follow the program curriculum providing ample opportunities for natural play and hands on experiences that reflect the learning styles of individual children in the group.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment in accordance with Head Start and day care licensing requirements.
  • Implement Individual Family Services Plans (IFSPs) for children with disabilities.
  • Invite parent involvement in the development of the program's curriculum and approach to child development and education.
  • Encourage parent participation in staff-parent conferences and home visits discussing their child's development and education.
  • Work with Early Head Start and Head Start Teacher to schedule and complete two home visits per year and at least two parent-teacher conferences per year.
  • Maintain regular contact with parents and complete appropriate documentation (e.g. daily reporting on infant sleep, eating and elimination).
  • Assist in gathering and maintaining individual, family and classroom data for documentation, on-going assessment, evaluation and recording keeping for successful individual and program planning.
  • Participates in assigned meetings, events and training as required.

General Requirements:

  • Must pass background check and health screening.
  • Must be able to work in a smoke-free environment.

  • Physical Demands & Effort: May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. Position may require moderate amount of lifting, carrying items, bending and stretching. Regular requirement, and as needed, to lift children (up to 45 lbs.), including bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling, and sitting and walking while working indoors or outdoors. Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children.
  • Work Environment: Fast-paced, safety-focused classroom environment. Noise level can be moderate to loud within center. Require to engaged in indoor and outdoor activities, dependent on weather.
  • Machines, Tools & Equipment: Ability to use and understand the operation of basic office equipment that incudes, but not limited to computers and various applications, printer, photocopy machine, telephone, cell phone, calculator and shredder.
