Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young children? Join our Greater Louisville Head Start team at St Benedict Center! We are searching for an enthusiastic and dedicated Early Head Start Teacher (Infant/ Toddler).

Position Summary:

The Early Head Start Teacher (Infant/ Toddler) will manage the classroom, conduct home visits and conferences, playground supervision of children, prepare materials for learning activities, guide children in learning activities, provide a safe and sanitary environment for children, and work with parents in reference to planning for children's needs.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Comply with Head Start Performance Standards as well as Kentucky Childcare Licensing regulations and Head Start and St Benedict Center Policies and Procedures.

2. Understand and comply with Child Care Licensing, STARS, ITERS (Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale), and ECERS (Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale) as applicable to position.

3. Planning and preparation of learning activities for infant and toddler children.

  • Develop and implement daily curriculum.
  • Promote Literacy within the classroom.
  • Complete classroom, lunchtime, naptime, and playground supervision of children.
  • Use daily routines as teachable moments.
  • Participate and interact with children.
  • Work with children who have special needs and plan accommodations for activities as needed.

4. Provide for health and safety of children.

  • Complete daily health observation of children.
  • Promote personal care routines including toileting and/or diapering, handwashing, brushing teeth, and other preventative health practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom.

5. Encourage parental involvement in program.

  • Discuss child's progress with parents/legal guardians.
  • Assist families with transition between Early Head Start, Head Start, and other preschool programs.
  • Work with the Family Advocate to support family relationships.
  • Meet with Family Advocate weekly to discuss specific needs of families or attendance issues, and collaborate to resolve any areas of concern.

6. Maintain required paperwork and meet deadlines.

  • Document children's growth and work over a period of time through assessments and other strategies.
  • Complete screenings/assessments and anecdotal observations of children.

7. Professionalism

  • Participate in all trainings and staff meetings sponsored by agency or recommended trainings for professional learning.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, productive working relationship with all staff.
  • Arrange for coverage of the classroom with instructions for the substitute. Notify the other staff at your site about your absence and who will be substituting for the day.

8. Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Child Development Associate Certification required.
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • One year of experience in Early Childhood Education (ECE) preferred.

General Requirements:

  • Must pass background check and health screening.
  • Must be able to work in smoke-free environment.

  • Physical Demands & Effort: May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. Position may require moderate amount of lifting, carrying items, bending and stretching. Regular requirement, and as needed, to lift children (up to 45 lbs.), including bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling, and sitting and walking while working indoors or outdoors. Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children.
  • Work Environment: Fast-paced, safety-focused classroom environment. Noise level can be moderate to loud within center. Require to engaged in indoor and outdoor activities, dependent on weather.
  • Machines, Tools & Equipment: Ability to use and understand the operation of basic office equipment that incudes, but not limited to computers and various applications, printer, photocopy machine, telephone, cell phone, calculator and shredder.
