- JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Education
- Must have the ability to read, write, take verbal instruction and perform basic arithmetic. Certified through a nationally recognized certifying organization (NCCA) such as ACSM or ACE preferred. For group exercise classes where specialized certifications are available (i.e., Zumba, Spinning, Pilates, Barre, Yoga, Silver Sneakers, Tai Chi, Pre-Natal Yoga, Children’s Fitness, Hip Hop TurboJam, Cardio Kickboxing etc) These need to be active and current. Instructors leading arthritis exercise based classes must be certified through a nationally recognized arthritis certification such as AFYAP ("Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program"). AED /CPR Certification.
- Experience
- The interpersonal skills necessary to interact with participants in a personable, enthusiastic manner. The creativity to choreograph strength and cardiovascular training techniques that are fun.
- Physical

- Considerable physical effort. Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. Must frequently lift or move average weight material and occasionally lift or move heavy weight material of 45 pounds or more. Requires normal mental and visual attention and manual dexterity. There is occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. There is occasional risk of exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and infectious fluids. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- JOB SUMMARY
- Reporting to the Group Exercise Lead and/or Aquatics Coordinator, instructs land and/or water group exercise classes for St. Bernards Health & Wellness Institute ("SBHWI") members and guests. Instructs classes based on safe, appropriate and acceptable exercise movements and programs in a group setting. Class instruction will comply with nationally recognized certification standards.
