- JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Education
- High school graduate with business courses or office experience in typing, English, spelling, medical terminology, and work processing. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Allscripts, word processing and dictation equipment.
- Experience
- Requires one year previous medical transcription experience. Requires six months on-the-job training to become proficient in transcription work and familiarity with department procedures. Experience with word processing and dictation equipment. Must type minimum of 65 wpm.
- Physical
- Normal hospital environment. Close eye work and hearing with in normal range. Excellent written and oral communication. Operates computer, printer and copier. Long periods of sitting. Occasional walking, bending and climbing. May lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
- JOB SUMMARY
- Must be able to transcribe medical reports, letters and other material for physicians, physician extenders and nurses in a timely manner. Finger dexterity necessary to operative word processor keyboard with high degree of accuracy, spelling and grammar, etc. Must be able to operate printers and dictation equipment. Distributes completed documents in a designated folder to dictating person with time frame designated. Makes corrections as necessary. Mails reports to outside physicians who have referred patients to the clinic or internal physicians have referred to them. Protects and maintains confidentiality of medical reports and information. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Ability to manage priorities and workflow. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm. Acute attention to detail. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for extensive periods of time. Ability to use designated reference materials.
