What are the responsibilities and job description for the Religious Education Assistant and Registrar position at St. Catherine of Siena Church?
JOB SUMMARY: To service St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and its clergy, staff and parishioners by assisting with the catechetical program as registrar and as assistant for the religious education of children in grades K-8. This is a part time non-exempt position for no more than 20 hours per week. The position will require some variable hours outside of regular business hours to meet the needs of the Church Community including evening and weekend hours.
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
- As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
- Ability to greet and assist the Church Community with all concerns and to refer individual matters to others for appropriate disposition.
- Ability to type and word process documents as needed, to order supplies and monitor inventory and equipment and to organize the office and make it welcoming and hospitable for the entire Church Community.
- Ability to manage registration of all religious education students and families including the collection of all applicable fees, the entering of all registration data into the Parish Data System ("PDS") and maintenance of appropriate paper records.
- Ability to maintain all records required for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist including entering such data into parish registries and PDS, issuance of Sacramental certificates and notification of parishes of baptism of completed Sacraments.
- Ability to recruit, screen, train, assist and supervise religious education volunteers and to maintain appropriate paper records of such matters.
- Ability to generally assist the Director of Religious Education for Children and Youth with program design, development and implementation including:
- Interfacing with parents and guardians and obtaining all required monies, records and approvals;
- Assisting with classroom and parish hall setup and decoration;
- Maintaining class rosters, attendance and homework records;
- Maintaining and distributing classroom supplies and materials;
- Responding to the requests of volunteers, and
- Assisting with prayer services, parent meetings, Sacrament workshops and volunteer trainings;
- Ability to generally assist and support Church Community ministries and organizations.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and
- in writing) with the Church Community.
- Ability to abide by the moral and ethical norms of the Roman Catholic Church and to share in the same general covenant relationship to minister to the people of God and to model to the larger community the teachings of the Church; and
- Such alternatives to the above requirements as the Business Administrator and Director of Religious Education for Children and Youth may deem reasonably appropriate and acceptable.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
1. A high school graduate or equivalent education and/or experience;
2. Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
4. Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License.
