St. Charles Community College is located just west of St. Louis, nestled in the heart of growing St. Charles County. Established in 1986, SCC is a public, comprehensive two-year community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields. SCC also provides workforce training and community-based personal and professional development as well as cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities.
We are seeking a part-time Disability Support Services Assistant (20 hours/week) who will assist students with disabilities by administering/scheduling exams and assessments, arranging note takers, and assisting with the operation of adaptive equipment. The successful candidate must be able to work independently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Assists students with disabilities by administering and proctoring exams and assessments. Ensures test security, files incoming tests. Schedules student tests in person/ over the phone/via e-mail, and reschedules tests, when necessary. Works directly with the examinees as needed, per his/her disability. Transcribes assessment tests, as needed. Provides test to the Adaptive Technology Specialist for alternate text conversion. Assists with the operation of the adaptive equipment.
- Arranges note takers for students who have been identified by the DSS Manager as needing this service. Prepares list of note takers to be awarded the service scholarship at the end of each semester.
- Sends out test request forms to instructors via e-mail. Scans completed exams and forwards them back to instructors via email, then sends completed exams through interoffice mail.
- Answers general student and faculty questions and makes referrals to the DSS Manager as needed. Explains and enforces the DSS policies and procedures to students and refers students to appropriate services, as needed.
- Keeps records of each DSS student's schedule. Enters daily documentation and history for each contact with student.
- Communicates directly with departmental assistants and faculty.
- Communicates and works with the assessment center for special accommodations for the Academic Skills Assessment testing, as approved.
- Monitors forms utilized in Disability Support Services and orders when needed.
- Schedules exams and utilizes the College student information system.
- Promotes the College and its programs to the community.
- Tracks data and prepares reports to support strategic planning.
- Participates in strategic planning.
- Other duties, as assigned. Performs general office duties as needed.

Education and/or Experience
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate's degree in human services or a related field is preferred. Ability to learn customized computer programs quickly. Excellent reading/writing/oral communications abilities. Prefer experience working with people with disabilities. Utilizes miscellaneous office equipment such as IBM compatible personal computer, calculator, printer, telephone, and copier.
