DESCRIPTION
A full-time, non-exempt, hourly employee who reports directly to the Facilities Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Experience:
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Three (3) years of job related prior experience.
  • Job Knowledge:
    • General/specific knowledge about building maintenance trade activities, prevention programs, codes, practices, etc, working knowledge of the common materials, tools, terminology, accident prevention and precautions of the trade.
    • Basic math skills.
    • Understanding of Microsoft windows and Outlook.
    • Mechanically talented.
  • Skills – The ability to:
    • Operate construction hand and power tools; ladders, scaffolding and lawn care equipment.
    • Operate electrical testing equipment, route and install phone and computer network cabling, as well as operate office copier and fax machine.
    • Independently plan, organize, schedule, coordinate and make decisions and judgments relating to assigned projects and other responsibilities.
    • Assess facility needs and problems and present viable solutions.
    • Communicate effectively with a variety of trades and District personnel
    • Endure regular periods of physical effort, including heavy lifting and periods of mental effort.
  • Licenses:
    • Valid drivers license

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carpentry – Installation and repair of wall framing, finish carpentry, overhead door panels, springs and tracks, drywall systems, suspended ceiling systems.
  • Electrical – Installation and repair of basic high and low voltage circuitry including branch circuits, receptacles, switches, lighting fixtures and communication cabling.
  • Plumbing – Installation and repair of interior copper supply piping and PVC non- pressurized waste lines, toilets, sinks and faucets. Cleaning of garage sediment traps.
  • Painting – Prepare surfaces and apply a variety of paint and stain materials using a brush and roller method to various surfaces.
  • Concrete and asphalt – Light form and finish work. Routine sealing of asphalt.
  • Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning – Troubleshoot and repair basic HVAC problems including thermostats, blower motors, thermocouples, temperature sensors, limit switches, igniters and circuit boards. Perform annual cleaning and inspection of all District HVAC systems and humidifiers. Work involving refrigerant is not required.
  • Landscaping – Trim trees and bushes as needed. Install and maintain mulch-bedding areas. Plant bushes and trees as needed. Grass cutting and tree topping will be subcontracted with outside contractor.
  • Vehicle Repair – Installation and repair of a variety of cabinetry and fixtures on District vehicles. No mechanical work required.
  • Event Setup – Transport and setup District public relations trailer. Arrange District meeting facilities for meetings, seminars and training activities.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Facilities Manager.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
