What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Operator position at St. Charles County Government?
JOB DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to assist in various road projects, repairs, and maintenance in St. Charles County; and supervise crew members. The work is performed under the supervision of the District Supervisor and Assistant District Supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs lead worker tasks for road maintenance/construction projects as assigned by the District Supervisor including, but not limited to, storm sewer replacement, seal bridges, ditch maintenance, pavement repair/construction, snow/ice removal, hazard/trash removal, and concrete finishing.
- Gathers the assigned crew each morning and plans the activities of the road crew on the site.
- Ensures the safety, proper placement of road signs, and correct allocation of equipment at each job site.
- Advises District Supervisor as to which roads are in need of repair.
- Inspects equipment and vehicles and performs routine maintenance.
- Trains new employees.
- Handles emergency calls for repairs and service.
- Operates equipment when assigned.
- Investigates citizen complaints. Answers questions from the general public about road repairs and other problems.
- Cleans up job site and equipment.
- Fabricates tools and objects when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Certifications
- A valid class A commercial driver’s license w/air brake endorsement required.
Job experience
- 3-5 years road/bridge construction/maintenance experience.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Employment is contingent on successfully passing a full criminal background check.
