DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Cancer Center at St. Charles Health System is a comprehensive cancer center that provides holistic care to our patients. The Cancer Center provides Chemotherapy, Medical Oncology, Infusion Services, Radiation Therapy, Integrative Medicine, Nutrition, Social Work, Survivorship and other supportive care treatments. We support our patients in the various stages of their treatments.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Medical Dosimetrist at St. Charles Health System ensures precise and accurate treatment planning for Radiation Oncology patients as well as supports the simulation process. The Dosimetrist will work in systems including but not limited to: Raystation, Mosaiq, MiM Maestro, Brainlab Elements, Radcalc, and Elekta oncology equipment. The Medical Dosimetrist understands the physical and geometric characteristics of equipment, treatment devices, radioactive devices, radioactive sources, and treatment planning. This position does not directly supervise any other caregivers.

Essential Functions And Duties

Provides dosimetry services, including computerized treatment planning, 3-D treatment planning, IMRT/VMAT, SRS/SBRT treatment planning, and brachytherapy dosimetry. Performs fusions, overall planning and related data management. Approximate case balance: VMAT = 60%, 3D = 25%, SBRT/FSRT = 10%, Brachytherapy 5%. Other modalities and procedures as needed.

Maintains clear and effective communication with peer dosimetrists, as well as physician, therapy, and physics groups to carry patients through the planning process in a timely and beneficial manner that preserves physician intent for the course of care.

Performs computerized dosimetry calculations and treatment planning to assure accurate radiation dosage and conformity of patient treatments.

Participates in quality assurance/improvement program that conforms to Joint Commission guidelines.

Participates in simulation and treatment procedures as needed to fulfill delivery of a designed treatment plan.

Occasionally assists physics and/or therapy with the crafting of special treatment devices to match the designed treatment plan.

Compiles high quality and consistent documentation of treatment plans and dosimetric processes that meet department standards and are clearly understood by all staff.

Responsible for submitting accurate dosimetry charges.

May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

Education

Required: Associates degree. A graduate of a hospital or university affiliated dosimetry program OR a registered Radiation Therapy Technologist with on-the-job training in dosimetry, under the direct supervision of a Medical Dosimetrist, medical radiation physicist, and radiation oncologist.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

Required: Must be certified, or eligible for certification, by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board as a CMD. If certification is not current, must become certified within 12 months of start date.

Preferred: Be a registered Radiation Therapy Technologist by the ARRT or be qualified for such registry by reciprocity through registry membership with an equivalent organization. Registration with Oregon Board of Medical Imaging.

Experience

Required: Membership in national or regional organizations, specific to radiation oncology and medical dosimetry that advocate continuing education.

Preferred: Three (3) years’ work experience in a radiation oncology clinic as a Medical Dosimetrist, Physics Assistant, registered Radiation Therapy Technologist, or equivalent.

Salary : $65 - $98
