Job Summary About the Role
Assist with enhancing the physical appearance and experience of the Park District for residents and visitors to our parks and facilities.

This position is well suited for someone with a pleasant personality. Must be reliable and show initiative, tact, and productivity.
Required: High school graduate. Must be 18 years old. A valid State driver's license is necessary. Job entails manual labor to take care of grounds, trees and shrubs in all District Parks. Seasonal Associates are expected to work 4th of July along with other Park District special events. The job requires working cohesively with fellow staff as well as the public. Must be able to exercise discretion and decision-making skills when needed. Must be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions. Must be able to learn the proper use of hand tools, grounds equipment and operation of trucks, tractors and riding mowers.
Seasonal work is May August with hours from 7am 3:30 pm, M-F, 40 hour week with some work on weekends occasionally. Must have or complete Mandated Reporter certification within 30 days of hire date.
Essential Functions of the Position
Park District Cornerstones
- Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park Districts safety and risk management program.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
- Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
- Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.
Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks and Planning, the Assistant Superintendent of Parks, and the Arborist Supervisor, the Seasonal Park Associate Arbor shall complete their assigned duties to the best of their abilities, and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
- Assist the Arborist Supervisor and Arborist Assistant in the completion of assigned duties that may include removing trees, clearing brush, pruning branches, planting trees, raking turf and beds and other related duties as assigned under the supervision of the Arborist.
- Maintain a safe worksite for park visitors by identifying and removing hazards, providing advance warning to visitors in close proximity to worksite, and worksite cleanup as directed so that the site is left safe for park visitors.
- Operate tools, vehicles, motorized equipment to complete assigned work.
- Identify hazardous trees and limbs.
- Effectively maintain assigned areas and facilities as directed by Supervisory personnel.
- Be responsible to the Superintendent of Parks, Assistant Superintendents of Parks and any other supervisor as assigned.
- Willingly work over and above required daily hours when necessary.
- Operate motor equipment as needed or required.
- Work cooperatively and harmoniously with the general public and cooperating agencies, as well as fellow employees.
- Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
