Job Summary – About the Role
Assist with enhancing the physical appearance and experience of the Park District for residents and visitors to our parks and facilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
This position is well suited for someone with a pleasant personality. Must be reliable and show initiative, tact, and productivity.
Required: High school graduate. Must be 18 years old. A valid State driver's license is necessary. Must be able to learn the proper use of hand tools, grounds equipment and operation of trucks, tractors utility carts and riding mowers. Must have or complete Mandated Reporter certification within 30 days of hire date.
Scheduled shift hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Weekend shifts are required, with varying hours between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Start times may fluctuate based on department needs and special events. Work on July 4th and 5th is required. This position offers 30-40 hours per week, with a maximum of 1,000 hours per year. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, including heat, rain, and cold.
Essential Functions of the Position

- Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District’s safety and risk management program.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
- Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
- Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.
Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks and Planning and the Assistant Superintendent of Parks, the General Maintenance Associate shall complete all assigned duties to the best of their abilities and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
- Effectively maintain assigned areas and facilities as directed by Supervisory personnel.
- Be responsible to the Superintendent of Parks, Assistant Superintendents of Parks and any other supervisor as assigned.
- Daily opening and cleaning of park grounds and facilities including janitorial cleaning of restrooms, litter and garbage removal, cleaning of skate parks, disc golf course, dog parks, sports courts, sidewalks and parking lots.
- Prepare and clean pavilions for rentals and special events.
- Perform maintenance and prepare ballfields for scheduled league practices or games.
- Assist in layout and marking out athletic fields for scheduled league painting.
- Perform weekly re-painting of game fields during league seasons.
- Assist with mowing crew in mowing and trimming, playground surface raking and weed removal.
- Operate industrial power washers as needed.
- Perform leaf and snow removal, constructing and maintaining ice rinks.
- Perform minor fence repair, picnic table painting and special projects.
- Willingly work over and above required daily hours when necessary.
- Operate motor equipment as needed or required.
- Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Marginal Functions of the Position
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Assist with building maintenance.
