Job Summary About the Role
Deliver high quality marketing and communication to the residents regarding opportunities for recreation services and special events while adhering to the District’s safety and administrative policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
This position is well suited for someone with a pleasant personality and basic understanding of marketing and communications strategies.
Required: Current student of a university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Marketing or related field. Basic knowledge of the features and benefits provided to a community by a Park District. Work record must show reliability, initiative, tact, professionalism and productivity. Must understand generally used software packages and social media functionality to create and distribute communication(s). Must possess valid driver’s license and provide own transportation to and from work. Must have or complete Mandated Reporter Certification within 30 days of hire date.
Essential Functions of the Position

- Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District’s safety and risk management program.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
- Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
- Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.
Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Public Relations & Marketing Manager, the Intern shall complete assigned duties to the best of their ability, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish tasks and be ever mindful of the best interests of the Park District and fellow employees. This position is part-time as defined within the Park District’s Personnel Manual. Generally described, this position averages twenty hours per week on a seasonal basis. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
- Work cooperatively and harmoniously the general public, participants, parents and fellow employees.
- Display professionalism in oral and written communications.
- Manage personal schedule, combining pre-scheduled activities, special events, meetings and University requirements.
- Work with the Intern Supervisor to resolve difficult situations in a respectful, positive manner.
- Attend weekend and evening programs and/or special events, as required.
- Provide timely, accurate paperwork and reporting.
- Encourage the safety of all program participants and fellow staff by following Park District Safety Guidelines.
- Develop guidelines or policy for social media use for the District and specific supervisors.
- Brainstorms, creates and posts digital content for upcoming marketing use.
- Create a calendar, timeline or project list of social media marketing for each platform and facility.
- Create a performance reporting system for tracking user traffic, social media metrics and other quantifying data.
- Develop a strategy for researching industry trends and target audiences, such as blogging, influencers, etc.
