Overview
The Victim Advocate plays a crucial role in supporting individuals who have experienced trauma, particularly in cases involving child sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, and/or neglect. This position requires a compassionate and skilled professional who can provide emotional support, guidance, and resources to victims while navigating complex legal and social systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work or related fields, with a focus on crisis intervention and conflict management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to victims of crime or trauma, ensuring their emotional and physical needs are met.
  • Assist clients in understanding their rights and options within the legal system, particularly with crime victims compensation and obtaining protective orders.
  • Facilitate access to resources such as educational information, household needs, counseling services, legal assistance, and childcare options.
  • Conduct assessments to identify the needs of victims and develop individualized support plans.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, child protective services, and other agencies to advocate for the best interests of clients.
  • Complete follow-up with families at regular intervals to assess family needs and track the case from interview through disposition.
  • Administer and conduct outcome measurement surveys/evaluations with both families and partners.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress while adhering to confidentiality standards.
  • Participate in community outreach programs to raise awareness about available resources for victims.

Skills

  • Experience in social work or related fields.
  • Ability to effectively work with families and children, ranging in age from toddlers to 17 years of age.
  • Ability to navigate child protective services processes with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively advocate for clients.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of emotions under stressful situations and be able to deal with people who are upset. Emotional stability and personal maturity are essential.
