POSITION SUMMARY
To perform regular staff nurse duties and work closely with the program supervisor(s) on day-to-day program operations, program development and management activity which facilitate reporting requirements and program success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in planning and conducting team meetings.
- Orientation of new staff.
- Planning and implementing special events.
- Preparing required program specific reports on time.
- Conduct program outreach and advocacy activities.
- Provide direct care services, including exams and collecting specimens.
- Attend relevant trainings, meetings and workshops.
- Assist program supervisor with drafting or new program policy and procedures and review/update of existing program policy and procedures.
- Assist supervisor in meeting program accreditation requirements.
- Identify program goals as well as areas of change necessary for program improvement.
- Provide representation on appropriate community committees as assigned.
- Develop and/or update program specific materials, pamphlets, etc.
- Organize and facilitate program specific education as determined by supervision.
- Collaborate with billing to facilitate timely reimbursement/revenues for services.
- Assist with communicable disease investigation and follow up.
- Participate in emergency preparedness training, exercises and actual events.
- Order and maintain clinic supplies.
- Mandatory participation in orientation and training for basic public health emergency preparedness and response concepts.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work is performed under the direction of the applicable division head with direct supervision by a Public Health Nursing Supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May direct the activities of clinical, nursing and/or clerical support staff.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, EDUCATION:
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, current registration as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
- Minimum of three (3) years current nursing experience with strong leadership and administrative skills.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or health care related Bachelor degree preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of the basic sciences, theories and practices of nursing.
- Writing, reading, mathematical principles; proficient computer skills-Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook; exercise sound judgment and decision making in accordance with policies and procedures; ability to research and problem solve independently; knowledge of County operations and functions; ability to prioritize and time manage; handle stressful situations, provide effective and friendly customer service; support the County's mission and values; ability to think critically where necessary.
- Knowledge or understanding of basic administrative tasks: operate standard office equipment; document management; prepare and maintain records, various correspondences and reports; answer general inquiries and refer as necessary; answer telephone calls, process mail, order supplies/equipment; prepare meeting agendas, attend meetings, record/transcribe/distribute minutes; entering, transcribing, recording, storing or maintaining information in written or electronic form with speed and accuracy; maintain calendars, arrange meetings, schedule rooms and equipment as necessary.

Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with management, co-workers and clients; obtain and communicate accurate information; apply common sense understanding to complex instructions and respond accordingly; communicate complex ideas through graphs, charts, presentations, reports or other professional correspondence.

- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
- Proficient skills using Microsoft Office programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook required. Proficiency may be tested.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Prior to starting employment, the candidate must complete a satisfactory background check. - Must possess a valid State of Michigan operator license and maintain this license throughout employment in this position.
- Auto insurance and reliable transportation required.
- Required to report to duty when called upon in the event of a Public Health Emergency regardless of declaration.
