TITLE: Custodian
JOB GOAL: To maintain school system buildings and grounds in a clean, safe condition
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Principal MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or its equivalent.
2. Good public relations skills
3. Ability to read instructions and write brief reports
4. Ability to use technology and operate machinery associated with job responsibilities
5. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the
Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
6. Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups
7. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities
8. Ability to lift 50 pounds
9. Proficiency in oral, written, electronic communications and able to use various technological
devices/software, and ability to articulate clearly to others
10. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance
11. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule if needed.
12. Ability to climb, stoop, bend, and lift as needed.
13. Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and priorities.
2. Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and to prioritize tasks efficiently.
3. Maintains confidentiality of any Board of Education business, its staff, and its students.
4. Demonstrates and models regular and predictable attendance.
5. Demonstrates professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
6. Uses technology for communication, presentations, research, data analysis, budgeting, record
keeping, reporting, scheduling, and other job responsibilities as required..
7. Keeps building and grounds clean and neat (sidewalks, entrances, offices, classrooms, restrooms,
etc.).
8. Performs preventative maintenance (cleaning filters, vents, etc.)
9. Reports maintenance needs to local school administration.
10. Sweeps, mops, vacuums floors.
11. Dusts furniture, cleans windows, cleans baseboards, buffs and waxes floors as needed and in
accordance with established schedules and guideline.
12. Cleans and disinfects all restrooms and restroom equipment.
13. Disinfects desks, tables, and counters.
14. Uses chemicals, cleaners, and equipment according to established safety guidelines.
15. Reports potential problems, unusual events or work irregularities to appropriate administrative
or supervisory personnel.
16. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns, and/or complaints in a timely
and positive manner.
17. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment and materials resources of the school system.
18. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with board policies and procedures.
19. Maintains inventory of needed supplies, equipment, and tools and notifies appropriate personnel
when re-stocking or replacements are needed.
20. Performs other job-related duties as directed by the Principal.
SALARY: Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule
