Summary
Prepares microscopic slides from cytologic specimens; stains and mounts slides; studies cells from various body sites to detect evidence of cancer and other pathological conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related science.
- Completion of an approved cytology training program.
- American Society for Clinical Pathology registration CT (ASCP). New graduates or those completing Cytotechnologist programs must sit for the required exam within 6 months of hire and must pass the exam and become registered within 12 months of hire.
- Analytical ability and physical dexterity is required for microscopic slide production and screening of cytology specimens; troubleshooting ability to correct procedural difficulties.
