What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Unit Coordinator position at St. Claire HealthCare?
The Health Unit Coordinator assists with direct patient care activities as well as clerical services for the effective and efficient operation of the nursing unit.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Answers telephone and patient call systems promptly using proper etiquette.
• Greets and assists visitors, patients, staff, and physicians.
• Answers inquiries and/or refers to appropriate resources.
• Communicates effectively with other departments, patients, families, and coworkers.
• Enters and transmits discharges, transfers, and telemetry monitoring (if applicable on the unit).
• Notifies consulting physicians and providers as instructed.
• Scans reports and other health records into EMR.
• Requisition supplies as designated by the Patient Services Coordinator/Nurse Manager.
• Assists with patient/visitor requests, stocking, cleaning, and safety checks.
• Responds to basic patient needs (one assist bathroom, assisting to pull patients up in bed/chair, turning patients, and daily living tasks).
• Employees assigned to overseeing telemetry monitors, reading strips, and alerting nursing personnel of alarms/issues must hold a basic dysrhythmia certification.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent required
Experience:
Previous experience in medical/healthcare setting preferred
Licensure/Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within one year of employment
