Duties/Responsibilities
- Collaborates with healthcare professionals to plan care delivery, and promotes a culturally sensitive environment. Evaluates patient outcomes, participates in nursing practice development committees, and facilitates staff progression.
- Manages patient care providers and support personnel on the unit, promoting a staff committed to patient-centered care. Hires, evaluates, and delegates responsibilities to appropriate staff, implements corrective action and collaborates with nursing and hospital educational resources. Maintains confidentiality related to personnel management issues.
- Manages the unit budget using data to balance resource expenditures. Seeks and acts upon patient, family, and staff feedback, promoting, developing, and evaluating patient care processes. Maintains current policies and procedures. Negotiates interdepartmental resources and collaborates with other managers.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff, and directs the day-to-day activities of unit-based staff. Conducts daily leadership and patient care rounds, reviews the appropriate use of equipment, supplies, and physical facilities, and holds staff accountable for safe and efficient practice.
- Seeks collaboration with community health organizations to achieve positive outcomes and enhance the hospital's community presence.
- Engages in regular self-performance appraisals, and identifies areas of strength and opportunities for professional development through continuing education and clinical practice.
