What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Clinical Nurse Educator position at St. Claire HealthCare?
We are looking for a clinical nurse educator that specializes in surgical services to join our team! The educator will work closely with nurses, surgical technologists and all other employees in the OR, Same Day and PACU.
Position Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Educator performs a variety of tasks to improve the quality of nursing care for all patients through education. Specific tasks include: develop course/program curriculum, conduct unit-based needs assessments, plan, deliver, and evaluate unit-based education programs once identified/selected based on need, facilitate staff professional development, participate in applicable committees, councils, and work teams, assist with problem-solving and critical thinking, and serve as expert resource for other nurses and as a role model for expert at care. Routinely has access and knowledge of confidential, sensitive information requiring discretion and independent judgment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Develop course/program curriculum.
• Conduct unit-based needs assessments.
• Identify/select training topics, competencies, and skills needed at unit level in collaboration with manager.
• Plan, deliver, and evaluate unit-based educational programs.
• Facilitate staff professional development.
• Participate in applicable organization-wide and unit-based committees, councils and work teams.
• Assist with individual nurse problem-solving, critical thinking, goal setting, and planning on assigned unit.
• Develop/reuse guidelines for patient care and standards.
• Plan, deliver, and evaluate American Heart Association (AHA) courses.
• Serve as expert resource for other nurses and as role model for expert at care.
• Participate in competency verification in collaboration with unit leadership.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required. MSN or higher degree preferred.
Experience:
Five years of surgical nursing experience required. Clinical instruction and/or nursing supervision highly preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Must hold a current license and be in good standing with the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
Basic Life Support, Advanced Care Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider certification required.
BLS, ACLS and PALS Instructor certification within six months.
Specialty nursing certification within 3 years.
