This position is responsible for the coordination of the day-to-day activities of the Adult Day Respite Program, including planning activities, recording daily activity sheets for participants, directing volunteers, and assisting participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
T he following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Engages Adult Day participants in various programming; observes cognitive appropriateness of participants for the social program; documents changes in participants to report to caregivers and supervisor.
  • Plans and carries out meaningful daily activities that are developed based upon participants interests and abilities.
  • Schedules and oversees volunteers; communicates assignments; assigns tasks; develops volunteer schedule.
  • Communicate to caregivers verbally and via completed daily reports; discusses any concerns and reports back to supervisor.
  • Maintains sites with set up/clean up; stages the room; prepares snacks and drinks; cleans up site upon completion of activity.
  • Order appropriate meal count and snacks for participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles, rules, materials and equipment requirements for adult day respite program.
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives for aging, cognitive or sensory impairment or mobility changes, including psychology and sociology and personal health and hygiene.
  • Knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and dementias.
  • Knowledge in application of standard precautions.
  • Ability to develop and implement program standards and objectives outlined by superiors and to lead and instruct groups in activities designed for senior citizens.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate a variety of senior citizen oriented programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates and the general public.
  • General knowledge of current office practices and procedures and knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment and softwares.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff, supervisor, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form.
  • Must be proficient in workplace English and spelling.
  • Ability to read County policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; SDS sheets, safety manuals, maps, etc.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate mathematical calculations.

  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Work has no exposure to environmental conditions.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed in various community locations.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma/equivalent.
  • One year experience working with the elderly or disabled, preferably with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
  • Appointment is conditional upon successful completion of a caregiver and criminal background check.
Full Pay Range: $20.22 - $28.17/hour
Expected Pay Range: $20.22 - $22.87/hour
Department: Health and Human Services - Aging and Disability Resource Center
FTE: 0.375
