Job Title : Nurse Practitioner - Specialty Job Summary :

• To provide nursing medical care for high acuity patients in collaboration with a physician.

Experience, Education, Training, Special Skills, and Licensure :

• Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
• Masters degree in Nursing
• First Assist Certificate Required
• BLS Certification;Current LA state RN license from LSBN;Current LA Advanced Practice license from LSBN;Certification in an Advanced Practice role by one of the national organizations listed by Louisiana State Board of Nursing: AANP/ AACN/ AMCB/ ANCC/ NBCRNA/ NCC OR PNCB

Job Function :

1. Patient Care
   1. Provides direct patient care management to high acuity patients including performing histories and physicals, admits,and discharges; related to the care of specialty patients focusing on the maintenace, achievement, and restoration of optimal functions of patients.
   2. The NP will also visit patients prior to surgery, conduct discharge teaching afterward, and prescribe medications, including narcotics.
2. Partnership and Collaboration
   1. Plans, implements and evaluates nursing medical care consistent with medical treatment and care in collaboration with a physician. Additionally, the practitioner will initiate or modify medical treatment within an established plan of medical protocol.
   2. The NP will assist with consults, write orders, coordinate with consulting physicians, and accompany physicians on rounds. The NP will analyze clinical data; order and/or perform necessary diagnostic tests or procedures; develop, implement, and evaluate the therapeutic regimen.
3. Quality
   1. The NP will teach and provide support for patients and their families; minimize fragmentation by providing coordination of care; manage transition of the patient to step-down units or to out-patient settings; and serve as patient advocates.
4. Other Duties As Assigned
   1. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
   2. Criteria for Hospital Setting Nurse Practitioner:Patients of this role are of higher acuity in a specialized area This role involves being on call; This role involves hospital rounds; This role would be involved in assisting MDs with procedures (in clinic and/or hospital)
