Teacher - Theology Department (2025-26 academic year)
St. Edward High School (SEHS) is a premier private boys’ Catholic college preparatory high school in Lakewood, Ohio. The school was founded in 1949 and is operated in the tradition and charism of the Congregation of Holy Cross. The school has an enrollment of 900 students from a variety of race, economic, and religious strata, within a six-county geographic reach.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaches full-time, including 5 periods (60-minutes on a rotating schedule) and an advisory group
- Supports the school’s Holy Cross mission to shape the minds and hearts of its students through its extra-curricular activities, service-learning program and retreats
- Follows course objectives of the St. Edward HS curriculum and our approach to the USCCB Curriculum Framework
- Unit and lesson planning based on the International Baccalaureate’s MYP and DP standards
- Works collaboratively with fellow teachers to design and deliver authentic instruction and assessment
- Open to collaborating on and delivering interdisciplinary units with colleagues in other Departments
- Maintains classroom control and student behavior, allowing everyone the opportunity to learn
- Pursues professional development opportunities on a regular basis
- Collaborates with intervention specialists, St. Andre Scholars staff, tutors, counselors, and other supports to foster the learning of all students
- Works directly with team teachers and tutors to provide assistance and support for struggling students
- Communicates with counselors, learning professionals, parents and students to maintain a positive learning experience and identify any problems or difficulties
- Communicates with parents and students by posting lesson plans, sample work and grades on a regular basis on the school’s learning management system based on contract specifications
- Maintains flexible hours within contract specifications, providing time before school, during community period and after school for additional help, individualized instruction, mentoring or guidance of independent projects
- Participates in other department and community activities related to outreach, admissions, and the like
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Religious Education, Spirituality, or a closely related field; Master’s Degree preferred
- Has at least five years of demonstrated successful teaching experience in a high school theology classroom
- Has or is able to obtain VIRTUS certification; Master Catechist status preferred
- Embodies, transmits, and inspires the values of the Congregation of Holy Cross, specifically the mission of educating hearts and minds
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills; is able and willing to lead collaborative initiatives; and is a team player
- Understands and supports the culture, mission & vision of St. Edward High School
- Has demonstrated abilities in forming strong relationships with students, colleagues, and other school constituency groups
- Is able to lovingly and enthusiastically work with non-Catholic Christians, non-Christians, and atheist students in a supportive and respectful manner
- Is enthusiastic about collaboration with colleagues in coordinating liturgies, retreats, and other major campus ministry events
- Understands the complexities and nuances of the Catholic faith, Catholic Social Teaching, and ministries of accompaniment and inclusion in the spirit of the Congregation of Holy Cross
- Is fully capable of having pastoral conversations with students, faculty/staff members, and other community members
