St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). This office supports faculty and staff in securing and administering sponsored research and projects. Reporting to the Director of Sponsored Programs, the Assistant Director will play a key role in promoting academic excellence by supporting faculty research and other strategic initiatives that align with the University's Holy Cross mission and vision to be a destination university for a more just world.
Strong oral/written communication skills and listening skills are essential, as is the ability to organize/prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects. Tact and creativity will be invaluable.
For consideration, the candidate must also meet the qualifications below:
- Interest in and willingness to learn advanced grant management, including both pre-award and post-award services.
- A Bachelor's degree is required.
- One or more years of demonstrable experience in the administration of activity and budget monitoring for sponsored or for other projects, preferably, but not necessarily, in a higher education context.
- Experience in accounting or bookkeeping required.
- Basic understanding of how to apply policies and regulations of government funding agencies preferred.
- Applicants with CRA (Certified Research Administrator) certification preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret grantor guidelines for proposal preparation and compliance.
- Basic experience with online grant submission systems is preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, including ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, including a collaborative and proactive approach to working with internal and external stakeholders, accessibility and timeliness in responding to inquiries, and an ability to clearly communicate grant preparation requirements to faculty and staff.
Essential Responsibilities Include:
- Working as a team member within OSP. Communicating effectively with current and potential principal Investigators/project directors and with administrators.
- Identifying possible funding opportunities.
- Reviewing proposals and contracts for accuracy and conformance with regulations/guidelines; Assisting with proposal submission.
- Providing a smooth transition into post-award grant administration, and sustained support and monitoring of sponsored projects, including OSP metrics.
- Assisting the Director with a broad array of routine tasks, as needed.
- Contributing to the maintenance and development of OSP systems and procedures.
- Maintaining and expanding knowledge of the profession by participating in professional development. May require short-term travel.
- Other duties as assigned.
