St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas, invites applications for the position of Career Coach. The Career Coach administers and supports career programs and services, fosters relationships with stakeholders (students, alumni, faculty, and external partners), and collaborates with the Programming & Events Coordinator on student programming initiatives. Responsibilities include career coaching for students and alumni, promoting job opportunities, and providing career education through workshops and instructional materials. Each Career Coach serves as a liaison to a specific School while supporting a student cohort and contributing to the university's academic mission.
This is a full-time, twelve-month position reporting to the Assistant Director of Career and Professional Development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in counseling, higher education, human resources, or a related field preferred.
- At least two years, preferred three years, of related experience in career advising, academic advising, student support services, marketing, sales, and/or recruiting in industry, government, education, or the private sector.
- Strong presentation, negotiation/sales, and written/oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in standard office software, including spreadsheet and database applications to generate analytical reports.
- Familiarity with job search techniques, including creative job search strategies, interviewing skills, and resume preparation.
- Understanding of international student population needs and legal issues pertaining to their curricular and optional practical training (OPT and CPT) restrictions.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students, faculty, and employers.
- Ability to function effectively as a member of a cohesive team.
- Must possess an unencumbered driver's license and the ability to pass a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in counseling, higher education, human resources, or a related field.
- Awareness of legal issues as they pertain to employment practices within the U.S.
- Knowledge of local and national job markets and trends.
- Experience with career assessment instruments and their administration/interpretation.
- Understanding and appreciation of the liberal arts.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide individual career advising and coaching to students and alumni on career and values exploration, job search strategies, career/major decision-making, internships and experiential opportunities, and graduate school applications.
- Develop and deliver career-related workshops, seminars, and internship preparation courses in person and online.
- Serve as a liaison to an assigned School, collaborating with faculty and stakeholders to develop, implement, and assess programming efforts for students and alumni.
- Administer career assessments, interpret results, and advise students on professional development.
- Assist students and alumni with resume/cover letter writing, professional networking, and interviewing strategies.
- Remain current on job market trends and career opportunities relevant to students and alumni.
- Develop and maintain career/professional development resources, including handouts, online instructional guides, and articles.
- Actively develop and strengthen relationships with Department Chairs, faculty, and staff to support career programming initiatives.
- Implement strategy and best practices for career development within the assigned School.
- Schedule and document career advising sessions in internal systems.
- Assess usage and effectiveness of office programs and services through measurable data collection.
- Assist with planning, development, and marketing of office-sponsored career fairs and events.
- Refer students to and collaborate with other St. Edward's support services professionals and faculty.
- Participate in occasional weekend and evening events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
