What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Music and Liturgy position at ST ELIZABETH ANN SETON PARISH?

BASIC FUNCTION: The Director of Music and Liturgy reports directly to the Pastor. This ministerial position assists the Pastor with the sacramental life of the parish regarding Music and Liturgy in accordance with the parish policies and the particular laws and norms of the Archdiocese of Denver (contained in the Pastoral Handbook). The Director of Music and Liturgy is a person of faith, committed to the Gospel. He or she serves the Church, has an understanding that music is at the service of the liturgy, shows responsible management of resources, and helps the Church fulfill its mission while upholding the Catholic teachings of the Church.
Specific duties and responsibilities of the Director of Music and Liturgy include:
LITURGICAL AND MUSIC MANAGEMENT:
- Serves as primary director for weekend liturgies. Conducts rehearsals with appropriate groups and/or cantors weekly at a separate time.
- Serves as primary musician for Holy Days, sacramental celebrations, and other specially scheduled liturgical events.
- Provides and encourages educational and spiritual enrichment opportunities for all parish musicians and liturgical ministers such as parish and diocesan gatherings, workshops, and retreats at the discretion of the Pastor.
- Ability to teach music, voice, and instrumentation.
- Oversees scheduling of all liturgical ministries including clergy, musicians, and music groups.
- Serves as primary liturgy planner working in cooperation with the Pastor and parish clergy.
- Prepares worship aids for all liturgies and other worship events.
- Meets with engaged couples to discuss wedding music requirements, and assists in liturgy planning in collaboration with the priest or deacon; serves as musician and liaison for weddings.
- Meets with families to plan liturgy and music for funeral services. Planning includes: preparing worship aids, notifying cantor (serve as musician or liaison for funerals) informing funeral home about musicians and fees.
- Works with funeral coordinator to schedule funeral lunch receptions.
- Attends liturgy planning meetings, staff calendar meetings, mission family meetings and social events, and other gatherings as required. Participates in agenda preparation and providing information as applicable.
- Ensures parish and musicians comply with copyright licenses.
- Oversees maintenance of parish musical instruments and equipment as well as AV equipment.
- Keeps sanctuary music loft and music storage areas clean and organized.
- Oversees procurement and care of liturgical supplies, for example, candles, host, vessels, and seasonal needs (palms, flowers, dcor) and submits order requests to the Pastor.
- Serves as liaison between the Pastor and the decorating committee.
- Performs other tasks and services as directed by the Pastor.
- FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:
- Responsible for providing input for annual music and liturgy budget and monitors music expenses throughout the year to stay within the annual budget.
- Obtains all required approvals and recommendations from the pastor with regards to the procurement of any musical supplies.
- Oversees the management and procurement of all musical and licensing as required by law, including song books, sheet music, instruments, instrument maintenance, bells, and any other music related items.
- Maintains, cleans, and inventories all music related assets owned by the parish, including items such as the vestments, instruments, bells, computers, projectors, sound equipment, cords, and any other music related materials.
- Responsible for musical instruments owned by the parish, including sheet music, pianos/organs, hand bells, and any other musical instruments.
- Responsible for overseeing that all requirements listed in the Risk Management and Insurance Manual are met and maintained.
- Works with all liturgical volunteers to ensure proper volunteer hold harmless forms are filed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Potential for travel involved. Lifting not more than 50 lbs. Ability to communicate effectively, operate equipment such as computers, copiers, printers, telephone, dolly, basic hand tools and security alarm systems.

EDUCATION
- Degree in sacred music.
- Degree in liturgy preferred.
- Professional business experience in dealing with personnel and volunteers.
