Upper School Math Teacher Job Description
Position Overview: An Upper School Math Teacher is responsible for delivering quality mathematics instruction to students in grades 5 through 8. The teacher should foster a positive and faith-filled learning environment, helping students develop strong mathematical skills and a deep understanding of key concepts. This role involves creating lesson plans, assessing student progress, and collaborating with colleagues and parents to support student achievement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the grade-level standards.
- Teach a range of mathematical concepts, including 6th-8th grade mathematics and high school algebra and geometry.
- Adapt instruction to meet the varying learning styles and abilities of students including our accelerated math programming beginning in grade 4.
- Use a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and technology integration.
- Promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning among students.
- Provide once a week on-site tutoring support before or after school.
- Provide a 4 week math bootcamp for students during the summer. Schedule and dates to be mutually agreed upon with school.
- Assessment and Feedback:
- Create and administer quizzes, tests, and assignments to evaluate student understanding.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on student performance.
- Maintain detailed records of student progress and grades.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and make adjustments to teaching strategies.
- Provide placement testing for new students and returning students.
- Classroom Management:
- Maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Manage student behavior and foster a culture of responsibility, respect, and cooperation.
- Establish clear classroom rules and expectations.
- Address any discipline issues promptly and appropriately.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and staff to support interdisciplinary learning and school-wide initiatives.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, achievements, and areas of concern.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.
- Professional Development:

Qualifications:
