Serve as a well-rounded and key physician support contributor within a small physician practice office. Responsible for providing a combination of Medical Assistant, Scheduler, Patient Access/Registrar, and Charging/Coding services.
Essential Functions:
To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Provide customer service to patients and visitors; assist with patient/visitor request; ensure patient/visitor request are heard and receive the proper response.
- Collect and document patient information and maintain medical records to include forms and documentation in accordance with HIPAA standards and established procedures; chart patient data; follow protocols to protect patient information.
- Ensure clinical area is clean, equipped appropriately, and supplies are well stocked.
- Provide Patient Access support to include but not limited to the following: Provide basic clerical support as required (i.e. answer phone calls, direct visitors, write correspondence, scan and/or copy documents, etc.). Calculate, identify, and request the prepayment or deposit requirement; inform patients of financial responsibility prior to physician visit and/or surgery. Verify insurance and obtain insurance preauthorization and/or pre-certification when required. Relay patient information to appropriate parties as directed. Coordinate with other healthcare providers, offices, and physicians regarding patient needs and/or referrals. Collect and post payments, balance payment batches. Enter/balance medical charges to include office and/or surgical charges. Ensure patients/office visitors are comfortable and the office is presentable; make every effort to minimize the waiting period.
- Provide Scheduling support to include but not limited to the following: Make appointments with physicians on behalf of new and existing patients; coordinate follow-up visits with patients as per the physician. Maintain an adherence to each physician’s patient scheduling guidelines; coordinate surgery with physician schedule; notify the appropriate staff of surgery schedule or changes to schedule.
- Provide Medical Assistant support to include but not limited to the following: Coordinate physician orders; ensure orders are validated and fulfilled as intended. Obtain and validate surgery and/or test orders are complete and signed by the physician; conduct follow-up as necessary. Provide efficient and effective care under the guidance of the physician. Prepare patient for treatment, procedures, and exams, dress wounds. Provide assistance during examinations, lab or x-ray procedures, patient transport, or other medical activities.
- Maintain competencies, CEU’s, certification(s), and a current knowledge base of accepted standards and trends.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience: Four (4) years of experience in two or more of the following functional roles: Medical Assistant, Patient Access/Registrar, Coding & Charging, Patient Scheduling, or similar work preferred
