Job Summary
- The unit secretary through communication, requisitioning and management of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other hospital departments and visitors. He/she performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
Essential Functions
- Greets patients and visitors. Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls. Calls codes, pages, and overhead announcements as requested
- Enters nursing requests subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary
- Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Assembles and maintains patient records and charts
- Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies
- Performs registration tasks for telehealth patients
- Makes reminder and follow up phone calls to surgery patients
- Accomplishes tasks by considering all areas involved no matter how small; showing concern for all aspects of the job; accurately checking processes and tasks and being watchful over a period of time.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
- X High school diploma or equivalent X Required
Certifications
- X Basic Life Support (BLS)
Minimum Work Experience
- One year experience in clerical work preferred
Required Skills
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
