Overview of St. Francis of Assisi Bookkeeper Position
St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church is seeking a part-time accountant / bookkeeper experienced in fund accounting to be responsible for clerical, bookkeeping, and financial reporting functions for all operations of the church, including customary church activities, the church’s cemetery and the St. Francis Thrift Shop. The position works under the direction of the Rector and the oversight of the Vestry Liaison for Finance and Treasurers.
Responsibilities
· Maintain accounting records in Church Accounting Software (Realm) for all Church, Cemetery and Thrift Shop funds.
· Enter all tithes and offerings in Realm.
· Enter Thrift Shop sales revenues in Realm on a weekly basis.
· Prepare all checks from approved invoices/check request forms as required.
· Process and submit monthly payroll and tax deposits.
· Process quarterly payroll tax reporting to IRS and SC Department of Revenue.
· Prepare annual W-2 and 1099 forms for all employees and required vendors.
· Reconcile all deposit accounts on a monthly basis.
· Generate all monthly and year-end financial reports.
· Maintain budgets in Realm and alert Treasurers if an approved invoice/check request exceeds budgeted line item.
· Maintain parishioner pledge records in Realm.
· Update count sheets as needed.
· Prepare quarterly and annual giving statements for all contributors.
· Process necessary closing entries on a monthly and annual basis.
· Maintain vendor files, investment records, payroll records, contracts, etc.
· Generate various accounting reports for external auditors and be available as needed during annual on-site audits.
· Assist with the preparation of various other reports, i.e., parochial report, Church Pension Fund reporting, workers’ compensation reporting, etc.
· Other miscellaneous duties as requested by Rector, Treasurer(s), or Vestry Liaison for Finance.
General Requirements
This position requires experience with not-for-profit accounting (fund accounting), analytical skills, organizational skills, consistent attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have experience with executing and documenting customary internal accounting controls, as well as communicating with external auditors.
Compensation and Schedule
This is a part-time position that will be compensated at a rate up to $30-$35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. The Church provides no paid fringe benefits for this position. It is expected that the employee will work, on average, up to 6 hours per week, but not to exceed 25 hours per month without prior approval from the Rector.
