Parish Family Director of Engagement and Stewardship

Job Description

To engage parishioners by promoting a spirit of stewardship, encouraging members of the Jesuit Parish Family to share personal gifts of time, talent, and treasure with the community.

Job Summary

The Parish Family Director of Engagement and Stewardship will help develop the culture of using our time, talent, and treasure for the greater glory of God, in the Ignatian tradition. This job is primarily about cultivating relationships to help each of us connect with one another and contribute to our community, both through service and material support. Rooted in the fundamental understanding that all we have is a gift from God, this ministerial position will help provide vision and leadership to develop our parish understanding of “stewardship” as a way of life. Since the position will focus on education, formation, and promotion of the spirituality of stewardship and stewardship-related activities, the applicant will be a key minister in the church, inviting parishioners to share their gifts of time, talent, and treasure within the Parish Family and overall life of the Church.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a Stewardship Core Team, serving as a member and primary staff representative on the team.
  • In partnership with the Stewardship Core Team, develop and implement an annual plan for all stewardship activities within the Parish Family. Some areas of focus within the plan include:
  • Hospitality and welcome, with a special focus on engaging new parishioners.
  • Education and formation of stewardship as a way of life, especially through lay witness opportunities.
  • Annual Renewal Process to invite parishioners to share their gifts of time, talent, and treasure.
  • Fundraising for capital improvements and/or major needs.
  • Assist with stewardship-related special events (e.g. Welcome Night for New Parishioners, Volunteer “Thank You!” Event, etc.).
  • Coordinate efforts to reach and engage specific demographics (for instance, Young Adults, Gen X Catholics, etc.).
  • Develop and lead ongoing stewardship formation for parish staff and key Parish Family leadership groups (e.g. Pastoral Council, Finance Council, commissions, committees, ministry groups).
  • Assist with formation and training for new members on the Stewardship Core Team to help engage parishioners in ministries.
  • Identify and train individuals for Lay Witness Talks and other opportunities to promote stewardship as a way of life.
  • Create programming to deepen parishioner understanding of Stewardship.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate database of donors, potential donors, and major gifts.
  • Collaborate with parish leadership to develop and implement donor goals and annual giving initiatives.
  • Cultivate relationships with donor base to invite major and planned gifts.
  • Assist with developing stewardship content for communication vehicles (bulletin, newsletters, email newsletters, website, social media, etc.) seeking to enhance stewardship practices within the Parish Family.
  • Stay current with trends in stewardship and share information and practical suggestions with the staff and Stewardship Core Team to help ensure that all communication, ministries, and practices are consistent with principles of stewardship.
  • Identify and promote opportunities for parishioner involvement and assist parishioners discerning how/where to best use their gifts and talents within the Parish.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with active personal and communal spiritual life.
  • Competent in Catholic tradition and teaching (familiarity with Jesuits’ missionary work and Ignatian spirituality desired.)
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required, including effectiveness in conflict management.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and able to multi-task and work with minimal supervision.
  • Proven experience in development and effective implementation of the overall Stewardship plans to be designed.
  • Ability to identify and build relationships with those passionate about giving large donations.
  • Ability to work with and appropriately handle confidential information.
  • Administrative skills, including budgeting, organizing and collaborating.
  • Ability to effectively use technology to create documents, presentations, communication and social media; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Education, Training or Experience

  • A strong record of effective pastoral ministry leadership capabilities.
  • The ability to share a strong commitment to the Catholic faith with joy and hope.
  • Experience with team development, volunteer recruitment, training, and management.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Major in Business, Communications or Marketing preferred.
  • Experience with relationship building in an advancement setting preferred.
  • Experience with strategic planning and raising funds through a capital campaign preferred.

Working Environment

  • Position requires some irregular hours and evening and weekend work.
  • This position will report to the Pastor of the Parish Family.
  • This position will have an office in the Parish Center.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $62,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
