What are the responsibilities and job description for the PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE - COMMUNICABLE DISEASE position at St. Francois County Health Center?
This position is responsible for carrying out various job functions for Public Health Nursing Programs. Duties may include but are not limited to: Communicable Disease surveillance and investigation including STD/HIV Counseling and Testing, Immunization clinic staffing, working with the Maternal Child Health and Child Care Health Consultant programs and Community Health Education.
In the role of Communicable Disease Public Health Nurse, you will be essential in promoting community health and preventing disease transmission. You will leverage your core skills in public health alongside premium skills in teaching and social work to educate diverse populations. Your expertise in motivational interviewing and research data collection will aid in assessing community needs and implementing effective health strategies. Essential Functions:
· Assist in planning, directing, developing and evaluating community health programs in the county as they pertain to communicable disease surveillance.
· Provide health education to individuals, families and community groups in various settings
· Serve as a resource for area healthcare professionals, schools, daycares and the public by responding to requests for information.
· Conduct both active and passive surveillance for health problems and hazards such as communicable diseases; and utilize evidence-based sources and plans of action to address these issues.
· Collaborate with other health care professionals and service providers to ensure optimal patient care and control the spread of disease.
· Document nursing interventions, therapeutic measure administered, patient's reactions, patient teaching and understanding.
· Give immunizations according to CDC guidelines.
· Schedule and perform lab draws following physicians order. Follow up with physician and clients as indicated.
· Perform urine pregnancy tests, provide appropriate counseling/referral information to clients and assist with completion of Medicaid presumptive eligibility applications as needed.
· Administer and read TB skin test. Follow –up on suspicious and positive results in a timely manner according to protocol.
· Check for and demonstrate method used in detecting head lice. Provide evidence-based information and support in eradication of infestations.
· Attend meetings, conferences and workshops to further professional competence.
· Other duties as required for the position.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $41,600.00 - $81,000.00 per year
