What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Appraiser position at St. Francois County?
The St. Francois County Assessor’s Office is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Field Appraiser to assist in the assessment of real property within the county. The Field Appraiser is responsible for conducting property inspections, collecting data, and determining fair and equitable property valuations in accordance with Missouri state statutes and county policies. This position requires fieldwork in varying weather conditions, as well as office-based duties related to data entry and assessment record management.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Conduct on-site inspections of residential, commercial, agricultural property.
- Collect, verify, and analyze property characteristics, including measurements, structures, and land use.
- Utilize mapping systems, aerial photography, and GIS technology for property assessments.
- Review building permits, sales transactions, and other documents to ensure accurate valuation.
- Enter and update property information in the county’s assessment database.
- Communicate with property owners, answering questions and explaining assessment procedures.
- Assist in processing appeals and provide supporting documentation for valuation determinations.
- Stay current on state laws, regulations, and assessment methodologies to ensure compliance.
- Work collaboratively with the Assessor’s Office staff and other departments as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Prior experience in property assessment, real estate, or a related field is a plus but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in using computers, databases, and mapping software (GIS experience preferred).
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain.
- Must possess a valid Missouri driver’s license and a reliable vehicle for fieldwork.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
