Job Summary
The Early Childhood substitute teacher plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the center, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children. At St. Gabriel the Archangel Early Learning Center, we strive to connect and bond our students, families and church communities together to help each child reach their fullest potential. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood education and have prior experience in a childcare setting. Applicant should be knowledgeable about STEAM education/nature-based experiences and be comfortable teaching in a manner consistent with the academic, social, moral and religious teachings of the Catholic Church.
Schedule: Program operates Monday through Friday, 6: 15 AM to 6 PM. Specific schedules may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
- Possess active Child Development Associate (CDA) or Early Childhood Professional Credential (ECT) credential level 1 minimum or willingness to obtain a level 1 ECT credential.
- 1-2 years of previous teaching or assistant teaching position in a licensed early childhood program, PreK, preschool, daycare, or education experience preferred
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations.
- Teach in a manner consistent with the academic, social, moral and religious teachings of the Catholic Church.
- CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, preferred but not required
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
Child growth and development:
- Has knowledge of, articulates, and applies concepts, principles, theory and practices of early childhood development to build and maintain a positive, nurturing and supportive relationship with children and families. Successfully engage and challenge children of differing abilities.
- Plans in conjunction with the Center team and implements appropriate STEAM Education in children's learning activities to enhance skill development in all domains of learning. Creates individualized learning experiences that advance the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of children.
Classroom management:
- Ensures that the classroom environment (including outdoors) is clean, safe, calm and educational, in accordance with Colorado Child Care Licensing. Requests, maintains, and prepares materials so they are adequate, appropriate and safe.
- Individually documents in databases including Procare, and performs observations/assessments to track student progress and learning.
Families:
- Demonstrates acceptance of all children and their families, including those with special needs, behavioral challenges, and diversity of culture, race, ethnicity and parental choices. Support the development of positive relationships between children and their families, while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Facilitates family engagement, increases parents' knowledge about child development and shares knowledge about individual children via home activities, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Happy Notes, and regular communication.

- Takes initiative, is flexible and adaptable in a fast paced work environment.
- Demonstrates positive attitude and uses common sense. Maintains interaction with children, families, staff and community partners that is warm, sensitive, honest, natural, calm, respectful, and appropriate. Demonstrates sense of humor, flexibility and adaptability. Collaborates and shares with co-workers and respects their opinions and contributions.
- Is prepared, punctual and engaged in meetings and work duties to include teaching, staff meetings, events, etc.
- Adheres to all program policies and procedures and accepts other duties as assigned.
- Uses discretion and maintains confidentiality with matters of children, families, staff and program.
- Accepts supervision from the Program Director/Assistant Program Director and agrees to work together to provide a quality early learning experience aligned with the program’s mission.
Summary of Additional Expectations:
- Attend all meetings and/or trainings as required outside of normal contractual day
