What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Associate position at St. George's Independent School?
Working within the Operations component of the school, the Facilities Associate serves in a line level position responsible for the effective physical operation of St. George’s campuses. The Facilities Associate is expected to possess fundamental competencies in the areas of mechanical systems, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance work. This position also performs work associated with general grounds and athletic field maintenance.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Director of Facilities
Position Classification: Hourly, non-exempt
Position Competencies and Responsibilities:
Working under the leadership and supervision of the Director of Facilities:
· Demonstrates knowledge and practical application of the skills, methods, practices, and equipment normally associated with the maintenance of a facility.
· Proactively observes and initiates repairs or improvements to buildings, grounds, equipment, or systems. Responds to service requests in a timely manner and communicates updates with staff.
· Competently operates systems, equipment and machinery. Ensures facility systems and equipment are well maintained in a state of readiness. Initiates equipment repairs as needed.
· Ensures regulatory compliance with environmental, health, safety, and maintenance standards as required by law. Reports deficiencies and initiates corrective action when necessary.
· Serves as liaison with third party vendors or contractors as necessary.
· Ensures the daily operational readiness across assigned campus.
· Identifies safety hazards or risks and takes appropriate corrective action. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies. Ensures equipment is maintained in serviceable condition.
· Performs general maintenance activities inside and outside of buildings. Performs athletic field maintenance as required.
· Assist with setup and breakdown for school events such as assemblies, athletic events, chapel, and meetings.
· Serves as a positive role model for students and maintains professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
· Maintains compliance with all St. George’s Independent School policies and procedures. Performs other related work as required or assigned.
The Facilities Associate will develop and maintain expertise in each of these areas to fulfill the vision for the St. George’s Independent School campus facilities function. This position requires a high degree of diplomacy, flexibility and adaptability. This position requires a professional who is an effective communicator with demonstrated critical thinking skills. The Facilities Associate must demonstrate a continuous improvement approach to St. George’s ongoing commitment to excellence related to campus facilities while fostering a positive, compassionate, and student-centered learning environment. The Facilities Associate work schedule and hours vary and are dependent upon the needs of Operations function.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Candidates should have professional experience performing facility and general maintenance work in a comparable work environment.
Preferred Experience or Training Areas:
· Vocational training, expertise or certification related to mechanical systems, construction, athletic field maintenance.
· Previous experience working in a school or similar work environment.
Licenses:
· Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements:
Regularly turn, bend, reach, walk, stand, talk, hear and interact with campus visitors as well as others on campus. Position requires frequent heavy lifting and moving of materials and equipment. Maintains a neat and professional appearance.
