What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional position at St. Georgia's General Residential Operation?
The Direct Care Worker will be responsible for developing, assessing, facilitating and monitoring all components of assigned caseloads. All duties will be performed based on administrative training and direct supervision by the Treatment Director or designee. The Direct Care Worker will maintain a flexible, organized and efficient work schedule and is employee to work overtime. This will be either a full- or part-time position.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (May be obtained upon hire)
- Must participate in behavior management and physical restraint training once hired.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant experience working with children and/or adolescents.
- Bachelor’s degree in a human or social service-related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of residential service’s safety practices and protocols for children and adolescents.
- Flexibility and resourcefulness in dealing with new problems and changing circumstances.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse populations and work force.
- Ability to work flexible hours which vary according to client needs.
Duties Include:
· Serve as a positive role model to resident
· Maintain resident progress notes and assist in developing goal-oriented service plans
· Provide resident supervision and maintain appropriate documentation
· Establish helping relationships with residents
· Report all inadequacies in provision of service to residents as specified by St. Georgia's and contract guidelines
· Participate in individual and group counseling, as needed
· Prepare and submit documentation and reports within required timelines
· Keep Shift Supervisor informed of all observations made
· Provide crisis intervention for residents
· Attend and participate in training, workshops and in-services provided by St. Georgia's GRO or outside agencies, as requested
· Maintain confidentiality in all areas of resident and program operations
· Maintain professional and ethical standards as prescribed by St. Georgia's GRO
· Comply with the agency and program and policy procedure manual
· Comply with all Licensing Standards as well as funding source guidelines

· Child care services for each assigned child
· Being aware of and accountable for each child’s on-going activity
· Providing the level of supervision necessary to ensure each child’s safety and well-being, including auditory and/or visual awareness of each child’s on-going activity as appropriate
· Being able to intervene when necessary to ensure each child’s safety
· In deciding how closely to supervise a child, the care giver must take into account:
· The child’s age
· The child’s individual differences and abilities
· The indoor and outdoor layout of the operation
· Surrounding circumstances, hazards, and risks
· The child’s physical, mental, emotional, and social needs

· Be aware of the children’s habits, interests, and any special needs, including any special supervision needs
· Provide a safe environment
· Cultivate developmentally appropriate independence in children through planned but flexible program activities
· Positively reinforce children’s efforts and accomplishments;
· Ensure continuity of care for children by sharing with incoming caregivers information about each child’s activities during the previous shift and any verbal or written information or instructions given by the parent or other professionals
· Implement and follow the children’s service plan
· If a child is participating in an unsupervised childhood activity, the caregiver must:
· Know where the child will be;
· Give the child a specific time to return to the operation or the caregiver’s location;
· Provide, arrange, or confirm an appropriate method of transportation to and from the activity
· Give the child a way to contact the caregiver in an emergency
· Be available to respond if the child contacts the caregiver and needs immediate assistance.
· Caregivers that supervise a child receiving treatment services for an emotional disorder must maintain daily progress notes for the child. Caregiver must sign and date each progress note at the time the progress note is completed.
· If a child or children are allowed overnight visits with staff, the children must be properly fed, lodged and supervised, and their health, safety, and well-being protected. The person responsible for the child must be given information about obtaining emergency medical care.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D. required with two years’ experience working with troubled resident as a para-professional, volunteer or intern in a social service, residential, educational or institutional setting, or two years’ college credit (30 credits) preferred and six months’ experience with troubled resident. Any educational or experiential qualifications to be considered as equivalent, in lieu of the above minimums will require prior approval from the Executive Director or designee. Must be 21 years or older. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Additional Required Experience
Must possess excellent organizational, writing, analytical, and processing skills. Should be able to perform conflict resolution or crisis intervention and have excellent communication skills. Conduct individual and group counseling, seek advocacy for resident, and embrace cultural diversity awareness. Must have the ability to work as a direct care staff with a diverse population. Must have a valid state driver’s license.
Compliance Agreement
I understand the above to be the minimum requirements for the position of Direct Care Worker. Further, I understand that my duties may expand or be adjusted in accordance to the needs of St. Georgia's GRO
