Job Overview
The Parish Communicator plays a vital role in providing various means of communication among parish members and the community at large via webpage, social media, email, and more. The Parish Communicator widely and correctly shares information about parish events, programs, and services. Synchronizes information across printed publications, website, social media and direct mail. Employs a strong sense of graphic design. Updates and utilizes membership database. A reliable presence managing office volunteers, scheduling servers for worship, and administering a busy parish calendar. Responds to email, phone, and in-person inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Creates visually appealing, informative print material and internet content.
- Is reliably present during office hours to provide a friendly welcome in a Christian context.
- Without exception is proficient in the use of MS Office software: Word, Excel, Publisher, OneNote and Outlook. Knows the form, tone, and conventions of traditional business communication.
- Has a wide range of computer experience, software skills, and the ability to adopt and integrate new knowledge. Makes use of Google apps, online calendaring programs, and online conference providers such as Zoom.
- Is computer savvy, learns independently, and is capable of training or sharing knowledge with others.
- Use of typical office equipment such as: copying/scanning/printing via networked and multi-functional copier; postal meter; fax machine; voicemail; and more.
- Befriends all people and groups in the service of diversity and inclusivity.
- Is attuned to detail and listens closely. Capably handles multi-tasking. Provides kindness and solves problems as appropriate.
- Cultivates volunteers and a cooperative work environment. Enjoys the company of co-workers.
Qualifications
Experience required: Minimum of 3 years professional office employment with references.
Software knowledge: Well-versed in using MS Office software, especially: Word, Publisher, Excel, and OneNote to create marketing material, images, documents, generate reports, and create mail merges.
Membership and distribution lists: Understands the concept and use of databases.
More than PDFs: Adobe software knowledge: image creation, manipulation, editing, and conversion.
Bring it all together: Adeptly employ graphic design skills and print an extensive worship bulletin each week (includes complete liturgy, announcements, and prayers); solicit, gather, organize, layout, and edit a quarterly printed newsletter.
Social Media: Employs a wide range of social media to establish widespread parish recognition and the extension of invitation to join us. Platforms include: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Constant Contact, online calendaring, and REALM. Probability of adding other platforms.
Videos: Experience creating, preparing, posting, and managing online videos helpful.
Website: Updates information on website, www.stjameswichita.org, using WordPress.
Modern office know-how: Is adept at managing direct mail projects from mail merge to bulk mail process.
Citation: Understands how to attribute proper credit for text, music, images, videos, and internet sites.
Cooperation: Works collaboratively and supportively with all types of people.
Emotional intelligence and sensitivity: Has an experience of church life and understands the value of belonging to a community.
Work/life balance: Has and carries out psychologically balanced boundaries. Does not bring personal drama to the workplace. Values promptness, confidentiality, and privacy.
Extras: Experience bookkeeping, especially for a non-profit organization, a huge plus.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 35 per week
