Job Description: Elementary School Teacher – 2nd Grade
Immediate Supervisor: Principal
Position Overview:
As a Middle School teacher, you will be responsible for fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for students in 2nd grade. Your role will involve planning and implementing curriculum, creating a supportive classroom atmosphere, and guiding students in their academic, social, and spiritual development. This position requires an understanding of Lutheran values and a commitment to integrating faith-based teachings into the educational experience.
Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development: Design and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with the school's curriculum standards and the Lutheran faith. Utilize innovative teaching methods and resources to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Classroom Management: Establish a positive and respectful classroom environment that promotes a sense of belonging and encourages students' active participation. Set clear expectations for behavior and maintain consistent discipline strategies.
- Academic Instruction: Deliver high-quality instruction within a specific subject area, such as mathematics, science, language arts, or social studies. Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Regularly assess student progress using formative and summative assessments. Provide constructive feedback to students and their parents/guardians to support academic growth. Maintain accurate records of grades and attendance.
- Individualized Support: Identify and address the unique learning needs of students, including those with special needs or learning challenges. Collaborate with the school's support staff and parents/guardians to develop and implement personalized learning plans.
- Student Guidance/Spiritual Leader: Foster a caring and supportive environment where students feel valued, respected, and encouraged. Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting character development, moral values, and the integration of Lutheran teachings into daily life. Exhibits proper use of Law and Gospel in managing student’s behavior so that students act in harmony with God’s Word, thereby ensuring an environment that is conducive to learning. Guides and directs the children so that they may apply their Christian knowledge to their own lives and conduct.
- Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and school administration. Conduct parent-teacher conferences and provide timely updates on student progress and behavior. Represent St. James Lutheran School in the church and community.
- Professional Development: Stay updated on current educational practices, research, and trends. Participate in professional development opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and staff meetings. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the school's curriculum and instructional practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
- Valid teaching certification or license.
- Prior experience teaching elementary school students.
- Knowledge of Lutheran beliefs, values, and teachings (preferred)
- Strong commitment to integrating faith-based instruction into the curriculum.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective classroom management abilities.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and meet the diverse needs of students.
- Familiarity with technology tools and resources for instructional purposes.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to work as part of a team.
