What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litter Abatement Staff position at ST. JAMES PARISH GOVERNMENT?
St. James Parish Government is hiring Litter Abatement Staff under the Operations Department.
JOB FUNCTION: To provide physical effort to accomplish a variety of semi-skilled tasks and is considered an introductory level of employment. It is classified as essential during declared emergencies or natural disasters and is a nonexempt position at forty hours per week. This position is “Safety Sensitive†and subject to random drug testing as per the St. James Parish Government Employee Handbook. Individuals in this class are able to complete the majority of their projects/assignments with a minimum amount of supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes any combination of the following illustrative examples of duties and responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Picking up trash and litter along all major roads and subdivisions in the Parish
- Picking up trash and litter on all parish owned property
- Transporting trash and litter to local landfill sites.
- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or general education diploma (GED).
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: Class E Louisiana Drivers License.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and enjoy outdoors
- Ability to work as a team player and display a pleasant respectful, and positive attitude.
- Working
knowledge of traffic laws and regulations related to a motor vehicle
- Ability to perform physical labor required of the position
