As a vital member of our laboratory department, you will be responsible for reviewing lab orders and entering them into the LIS accurately, as well as collecting blood and urine samples from patients.

At St. James Parish Hospital, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Phlebotomist - PRN to join our team. As a vital member of our laboratory department, you will be responsible for reviewing lab orders and entering them into the LIS accurately, as well as collecting blood and urine samples from patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately order lab tests in the LIS computer system.
- Receive lab samples in the LIS computer system for processing.
- Distribute lab samples to the appropriate lab area.
- Collect drug screens using the correct form and generate the correct charge.
- Label and handle lab specimens properly.
- Perform venipuncture to obtain blood samples using the appropriate type of equipment, adjusting to patient age and using two identifiers to identify the patient when collecting samples.
- Perform off-site venipuncture collections.
- Maintain a well-stocked phlebotomy area with supplies, monitor inventory, and submit requests for supply orders to be processed by Materials Management.
- Answer the phone using proper phone courtesy.
- Maintain an organized and clean working area with well-stocked supplies.
- Research and resolve problems with lab samples and test reports by looking up patients in the LIS computer system and faxing to the proper personnel.
- Support departmental goals and objectives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Certificate completion of a certified Phlebotomy course is preferred.
- Eligibility for employment upon graduation, preference given to candidates with 6 months' experience.
- Certification as a Phlebotomist is preferred.
- Current BLS certification is required.
