TITLE: School Psychologist/Evaluation Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten months (202 days). Salary established by the Board.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION: To plan, coordinate and implement a program which allow students to create individual plans for academic, personal/social and career goals; engage in broader school improvement efforts to ensure access to current trends; respond to changing student needs; and plans a curriculum of activities aligned with data and school-specific needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.0 PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Explain and interprets the psycho-educational assessment program to principals, teachers, parents and other members of the Parish school board;
  • Provides assessment of the psycho-educational performance of a student referred for assessment. This may include classroom observations of students, discussions with teachers, and informal and formal tests of the child;
  • Assists teachers and other school personnel in the design and the implementation of behavioral interventions for referred students;
  • Recommends additional evaluation as needed for children suspected of being in need of Special Educational services;
  • Acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the Parish in accordance with the guidelines set forth in Bulletin 1508 and the regulations implementing ACT 754 for the evaluation of referred children;
  • Participates in Special Education eligibility determinations;
  • Interprets assessment findings to principals, teachers, parents, and other professional Parish personnel and responsible practitioners outside the school system;
  • Provides or assists in the provision of in-service training of school personnel on topics such as pupil appraisal, educational assessment program, exceptional assessment program, exceptional children, learning styles, classroom management, intervention strategies; techniques, and other areas of expertise;
  • Provides an integrated report of any psycho-educational assessment services provided to students;
  • Attends scheduled and assigned staff, professional, and interagency meetings;
  • Keeps abreast of development in the area of psycho-educational diagnosis and evaluation coordinator and informs other appropriate personnel;
  • Completes all required reports of the Parish and/or State Department of Education and coordinates the appraisal process;
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities assigned by the Director of Special Education;
  • Cooperates with community health and social services agencies personnel;
  • Insures the overall conducting of an individual evaluation;
  • Tracks referred students through the evaluation process beginning with the request for services and ending with the distribution of the evaluation report or summary;
  • Reviews screening and other assessment data to design assessment questions and recommends appropriate disciplines for the student’s evaluation;
  • Insures the interpretation and integration of the results of the assessments. If discrepancies exist, the evaluation coordinator and other involved disciplines will identify and clarify the discrepancies;
  • Evaluates the comprehensiveness of the integrated report and insures that copies are signed and disseminated;
  • Attends initial IEP conferences and insures that other appropriate team members represent the evaluation when deemed necessary;
  • Maintains accurate case records on all students regarding their referrals, evaluations and any other services provided by the evaluation coordinator in accordance with the requirements of Parish, State, and Federal laws and/or policies; and
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Director.

  • Adheres to district guidelines relative to attendance. Regularly reports to work on time and works additional hours when deemed necessary;
  • Adheres to ethical, legal and professional standards;
  • Applies laws, policies, regulations, and procedures fairly, consistently, wisely, and compassionately;
  • Follows directives as assigned by supervisor;
  • Refrains from revealing confidential information; and
  • Uses proper administrative procedures for making requests and resolving conflicts.

METHODS OF EVALUATION: Evaluation will consist of 2 evaluations per year and 1 final evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION: Master’s degree in Psychology, Educational Psychology, or School Psychology of thirty (30) or more graduate semester hours from a regionally accredited College or University.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, speak, hear and sometimes sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
