Schedule:
Full-time: 8:00am - 5:00pm; Monday - Friday; night and weekend availability required as needed
Drivers are responsible for safe transport of the St. James Place residents to and from physician’s appointments, community functions held off–site in accordance with the St. James Place Transportation Policy and Schedule. May provide on-campus transportation for events and meals when needed. All duties will be carried out in a manner consistent with the Mission of St. James Place, under the Supervision of the Transportation Supervisor and the Director of Active Lifestyles.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Be at least 25 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Class D License (Chauffeur’s) or higher with a clean driving record.
- 2 years’ verifiable experience driving vehicles requiring a Class D License.
- Must have or be able to obtain a DOT Medical Card. Current card must be maintained.
- Be able to ensure that the passengers are properly secured in the vehicle including the use of wheelchairs (using the SureLok or other similar manufacturer-approved method).
- Knowledge or experience with general vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 60 pounds, and be physically able to aid wheelchair-bound residents when loading and unloading the lift bus.
- Must obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire and must maintain current certification thereafter.

Work Hours
- May require working long hours or hours outside of the normal work week.
- May be required to be on call.
- MAY BE DESIGNATED ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL IN THE EVENT OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, INCLUDING HURRICANES, EVACUATION, FIRE, FLOOD, ETC., AND BE REQUIRED TO REMAIN ON CAMPUS FOR THE DURATION OF THE EMERGENCY.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for safe transport of St. James Place residents to and from physician’s appointments, community functions held off-site in accordance with the St. James Place Transportation Policy and Schedule.
- May provide on-campus transportation for events and meals when needed.
- Coordinates band deposits and other courier needs for staff and management.
- Ensures that the expectations of the residents and visitors are consistently met.
- Uses correct judgement in refusing driving services when a situation is considered hazardous.
- Knowledgeable about the SJP campus, including doors and buildings.
- Ensures the vehicles driven are well maintained and reports any concerns.
- Safely assists residents in and out of vehicles; assists with mobility devices as needed.
