God’s Children Center Teacher
St. John Evangelical Lutheran School – Merrill, WI
Statement of Purpose:
In accordance with the School’s mission statement, it is essential that the individual in this position is focused on Teaching, Training and Nurturing God’s Children. The GCC Teacher is responsible to assist the children in the daily activities of the God’s Children Center Programs. The GCC Program consists of a Before & After School Care Program and an All-Day Infant to Pre-Kindergarten Program. Due to the fact that St. John is a Lutheran School, the Program is to be Gospel Orientated, with the redeeming work of Jesus Christ permeating its entire ministry. The GCC Teacher must be able to develop healthy relationships, creating a feeling of trust and mutual respect amongst children, families and other faculty and in all relationships, be guided by the principals set forth by Christ in Matthew 18: 15-17.
Work Status: Part-time hourly position, working all year long. Hours vary, the Director can provide specifics on that.
Job Relationships:
- Responsible to: GCC Director
- Supervision: Children
- Interrelationships: Children in program, families, principal and all other church and school staff
Qualifications:
- Has an intense desire to place the benefit of the children and their Christian education first
- Prefer at least one year of daycare program experience or experience working with children
- Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certified prior to start date, training available
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Positive, patient demeanor, friendly, flexible, dependable and energetic
- Ability to juggle multiple duties and handle & resolve crisis situations if they arise
- Ability to build rapport with children and families
Responsibilities:
- Create and lead infant, toddler and/or school age children in activities designed to promote children’s growth and development emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially and spiritually
- Ensure smooth daily operation, and develop and maintain strong communication with parents and staff
- Ensure that the classrooms are organized, cleaned and kept safe
- Help with food preparation, as needed
- Address children’s needs and communicate to Director and Parents as needed
- Manage discipline problems through Love and Logic, deferring to the administration when necessary
- Report any concerns regarding the GCC Program, to the Director and/or Principal
