What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corrections Deputy position at ST JOHN PARISH SHERIFF'S OFFICE?
A Corrections Deputy is primarily concerned with the supervision and safety of inmates within the jail. The Corrections Deputy is responsible for everything which occurs in the jail during his/her tour of duty and will adhere to the policies and procedures of the jail to maintain security while ensuring a safe living environment for inmates.
- Receives and processes all new inmates transferred to the jail.
- Maintains jail records during his/her shift.
- Conducts a head count at the start and end of his/her shift and records it.
- Makes periodic checks of all inmates.
- Reports any damage of jail property to the Supervisor.
- Fills out and delivers all incident reports and grievances to the warden.
- Reviews the jail log to update the jail activities.
- Conducts shakedown inspections as needed.
- Supervise the feeding of inmates.
- Supervise the cleaning of all areas of the jail.
- Confirms that inmates have the basics to practice personal hygiene.
- Supervise the taking of medication by inmates as provided by the medical personnel.
- Search all inmates coming to and leaving the jail.
- Supervise trustees.
- Advise the shift supervisor of any inmate security and discipline problems.
- Controls all public access into the jail.
- Controls all inmate movement within the security area of the jail.
- Keeps in communication with other Correctional Officer.
- Controls and monitors all emergency alert systems
- Controls the jail locking system.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the warden, associate and assistant warden’s.
